How GigsDex collects, uses, and protects your information, including identity verification documents, under Indian data protection law.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data GigsDex collects, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the GigsDex mobile application and website (together, the "Service"), for both guests (clients looking for professionals) and workers (professionals listed on GigsDex). This Policy is written to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.
GigsDex is operated by Kakshlink ("we", "us", "our"), currently completing incorporation as a private limited company in India. Once incorporation is finalised, this section will be updated with our registered company name, CIN, and registered office address. Until then, GigsDex is operated by its founding team, contactable at the details in Section 15.
This Policy applies to anyone who uses the GigsDex app or website — whether you're a guest searching for a professional, a worker building a profile, or a visitor to our public website. It covers information we collect directly from you, information generated by your use of the Service, and information we may receive from third parties such as Google.
Account information. When you register, we collect your name, phone number, and — for guests, and optionally for workers — your email address. If you sign up using Google Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and Google account ID from Google. We also record your date of birth if you choose to provide it, solely so we can send you a birthday greeting; it is never shown on your public profile.
Profile photo. An optional photo you upload to personalise your account.
Worker profile information. If you register as a professional, we additionally collect your business/shop name, bio, professional headline, years of experience, service category and skills, working hours, an optional home-visit charge you choose to display, a cover photo, an optional visiting-card image (front and back), portfolio photos or videos of your work, and any social media or website links you choose to add.
Identity verification documents. Workers may voluntarily submit a Driving Licence or Voter ID document to help build trust with clients. We store the front (and, if provided, back) photo of the document, and a one-way cryptographic hash of the document number — the document number itself is never stored in readable form. This review is a manual, internal check by our team to help confirm you are who you say you are; it is not an official government identity authentication, and GigsDex is not a licensed requesting entity with any government identity authority.
Location information. With your permission, we collect your device's location in two ways: (a) a general area — state, district, local area, and pincode — that you set once as your "My Area" (guests) or business location (workers); and (b) your precise device coordinates each time you search "Nearby" professionals, so we can calculate distance. A worker's saved location coordinates are shown as part of their public profile (used to calculate and display distance to guests), while a guest's location is used only to power their own search and is not shown to anyone else.
Reviews. Reviews of a professional include the reviewer's name, an optional phone number, a star rating, and an optional written comment. Reviews are published as soon as they're submitted — no account is required to leave one — and remain visible unless GigsDex removes them for violating our content guidelines. If you were signed in as a guest when you left a review, it is linked to your account so you can find it again under "My Reviews".
Contact and support messages. If you write to us — through the Contact Us form, Help & Support, or by email — we collect what you send us (your name, contact details, and message) to respond to you.
Device, usage, and security logs. To keep the Service secure and to maintain a compliance record (see Section 10), we log certain account events — such as registration, accepting our Terms and Privacy Policy, viewing legal pages, and account deletion — together with the IP address, device/browser type, and timestamp associated with that event. We also store a device push-notification token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver notifications to your device, and we record anonymised, hashed engagement signals (such as how many times a profile was viewed, called, or messaged via WhatsApp) without linking them to a guest's identity unless the guest was signed in at the time.
Advertising identifiers (not yet active). GigsDex does not currently show third-party advertisements. When we enable advertising through Google AdMob, Google's advertising SDK will collect your device's advertising identifier and related technical information to serve and measure ads — see Section 7 for details, which will apply from the date advertising is enabled.
We use your information to: create and operate your account and profile; make workers discoverable to nearby guests searching by category, keyword, or location; let guests and workers contact each other directly; review verification submissions; process and display reviews; send you service-related communications (such as verification status updates, birthday greetings, and push notifications); respond to support requests; investigate misuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms; and maintain the security, integrity, and legal compliance of the Service. We do not use your information for any purpose incompatible with these.
We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, given when you register and accept our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, and, where applicable, for the legitimate purposes recognised under the DPDP Act, such as responding to your requests, ensuring safety and security of the Service, and complying with legal obligations. You may withdraw your consent at any time as described in Section 10, though this may limit or end your ability to use parts of the Service.
Publicly, on your worker profile. If you register as a worker, your display name, business name, headline, bio, category, skills, portfolio, working hours, ratings and reviews, verification badge, location coordinates (for distance calculation), and any contact number or WhatsApp number you've chosen to make public are visible to anyone browsing GigsDex — including through a shareable public profile link. Contact details you have not marked as public, and your identity verification documents, are never shown publicly.
With our team. Authorised members of our admin team can access verification documents to review them, and can view account and content data to provide support, investigate misuse, and moderate content.
With service providers. We share limited data with providers who help us run the Service: Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging, for push notifications, and Google Sign-In, for optional account login), our hosting/cloud infrastructure provider, and our search-indexing provider (which receives only the profile fields needed to power search, for workers who are publicly discoverable). Our use of information obtained through Google Sign-In complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy.
Advertising partners (once enabled). See Section 7.
Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of GigsDex, our users, or the public.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party, for any purpose.
GigsDex does not currently display third-party advertisements. We intend to introduce advertising through Google AdMob to help keep the app free to use. From the date AdMob is enabled:
Google's advertising SDK will collect device and app information — including your device's advertising identifier (such as the Android Advertising ID), general device data, approximate location, and how you interact with ads and the app — in order to serve, measure, personalise, and prevent fraud in connection with ads. This data is processed by Google in accordance with Google's own Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and Google's Advertising ID policies, in addition to this Privacy Policy.
You can control ad personalisation, or reset/opt out of your advertising identifier, at any time from your device settings (on Android: Settings → Google → Ads). GigsDex does not knowingly direct advertising at children, will mark the app appropriately for its intended adult (18+) audience in Google Play, and will not enable child-directed advertising settings.
We will update this section, and our Google Play Data Safety declaration, before advertising goes live in the app, and will notify users of that update as described in Section 14.
We retain your account and profile information for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, security, fraud-prevention, and audit obligations — for example, the record of your consent to our Terms and Privacy Policy is retained even after account deletion, so we can demonstrate compliance if required. See Section 11 for what happens when you delete your account.
We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data involved, including: encrypting data in transit (HTTPS); hashing passwords and verification document numbers so the original value is never stored; restricting verification document access to authorised admin reviewers; and maintaining audit logs of sensitive account actions. We are continuing to invest in stronger safeguards for identity documents specifically, given their sensitivity. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities of any data breach likely to cause harm, as required by law.
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate or incomplete data; withdraw your consent to processing at any time; request erasure of your personal data; and — under the DPDP Act — nominate another individual to exercise your rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity. Most of this you can do yourself, directly in the app: your profile, most account details, and your privacy/visibility settings are editable at any time. To exercise any other right, contact us using the details in Section 15; we will acknowledge and act on your request within a reasonable time, and in any case within the period required by applicable law.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This immediately deactivates your account, logs you out everywhere, and removes your ability to sign in again. A record of your account deletion request is kept, as described in Section 8. Certain public content tied to a worker profile — such as portfolio items and reviews already submitted by others — is not automatically erased at the moment of account deletion, because it may still be relevant to other users (for example, a review a guest wrote about a professional). If you would like this content fully erased as well, please contact us using the details in Section 15 and we will process your request in line with applicable law.
GigsDex is intended for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to register. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we will take steps to delete it. Under the DPDP Act, a "child" means anyone under 18; we do not process children's data and do not undertake tracking, behavioural monitoring, or targeted advertising directed at children.
Some of our service providers (such as Google, for Firebase and Sign-In, and — once enabled — AdMob) may process data on servers located outside India. Where this happens, it is done in accordance with the DPDP Act's provisions on cross-border transfer of personal data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the law — for example, before we enable advertising. We will post the updated Policy here with a new "last updated" date, and where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to notify you in the app.
